Find answers to common CSA questions below.

What is a CSA?

  • Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) connects growers and consumers by allowing community members to subscribe to a farm’s harvest. People sign up to become members of a farm and in turn they receive a scheduled share of fresh produce, grown by people they know and trust.

What are you doing to make sure food is handled safely?

  • All staff are properly trained on health and food safety. Anyone harvesting, packing or delivering food wear face masks and gloves, and hand-washing stations are installed throughout the gardens for frequent use.

What’s included in a typical CSA box?

  • The produce you receive will depend on the season, with a combination of familiar items and new things to sample. For instance, a summer box may include shishito peppers, rainbow chard, leeks, garlic, cherry tomatoes, green beans and Thai purple basil. All boxes include hand-dried loose leaf tea and a flower bouquet. We also provide recipes on our website for items that may be less well known.

Where are your gardens located?

  • We have two locations in Marin County: the GEM garden in San Rafael and a garden we share with Homeward Bound of Marin in Novato.

How often are boxes released?

  • Our CSA subscription includes one box per month. We hope that in the future we will be able to provide bi-monthly releases. An email reminder is sent 2 days before your CSA delivery or pick-up date so you can plan accordingly.

How much does a CSA subscription cost?

  • The cost depends on the type of box you will need. See buy a subscription for complete details.

Do you deliver?

  • We do! We are happy to provide contactless delivery straight to your door as long as you are within 10 miles of our 2500 5th Avenue, San Rafael location.

I’m interested and would like to support your program, but I don’t know if I’m not ready to commit.

  • In case you’re not completely happy with your CSA, you may cancel your subscription at any time with no penalty.

Can I give a CSA as a gift?

  • You can sponsor a season-long CSA subscription for an ICS client in need. Many ICS clients do not have access to fresh produce and would love to receive a CSA each month. See our Share Some Love program to learn more!
